Some reminders for our new parents.

School life is so busy, and often we take for granted that you know what is going on...one mum reminded me that we should be updating parents  of what goes on at school - sorry!

It is so important that you come in and ask if you are ever unsure - Tina and Wendy are more than happy to answer your questions.

We have a school assembly every two weeks. On the sign outside the gate it tells you when the next assembly is and what class is hosting it.  All whanau are welcome at our assemblies. On the alternate weeks we have a Junior school assembly.  This week ( on Friday the 30th) it will be Room 5's turn to host assembly.  Wish us luck!

On Fridays also there is the opportunity for your child to purchase pizza for lunch.  This money goes to our home and school fundraising  committee - thus back to our students.  One slice of pizza is $2 and you can order either Hawaiian or Meatlovers.  You can also order a 'Juicee' ( a frozen iceblock) for $2.  On  a friday morning you will see senior students set up either outside the hall or the office to take your orders.

Room 5's library day is WEDNESDAY.  Please make sure your child has their library books and book bags at school each Wednesday.
School starts at 9.00am.  Parents are not to drive into the school grounds to drop off their children.  Please park outside the school and walk in.

And last but no least - PLEASE check your child's hair this week for creepy crawlies.

We have an issue with HEADLICE in Room 5.  Anyone CAN and DOES get headlice - it does not mean your hygiene is bad.  It does mean you need to continue to check your child's hair weekly as 'Nits ' are cunning and hard to get rid of.  There is a website called 'Eternal Essence' ( based in Waitara) that sells a soap that I have been assured is HIGHLY EFFECTIVE, COST EFFECTIVE AND NATURAL.  One treatment will not get rid of nits... you need to revisit weekly at least.  You can also purchase a 'RobiComb' from pharmacies - this seeks out the lice and zaps them in the process!  It is expensive but a good way to check hair on a regular basis - and I am sure cost effective in the long run.

On Wednesday both Tina and Wendy will be out of the class as we are on CRT release.  During  time we write reports, sort out resources and take the time to assess our students.  Mrs Jayne Rogers will be in class on Wednesday.

On Monday 2nd November there will be a Teacher Only Day at school.  There is no school for your child on this day.  The teachers will be involved in training.
Please pop in to see us if there are any questions about anything this week.

We hope you are enjoying your long weekend.
Tina and Wendy.

Today we had a visitor to Room 5 ......

Today one of our Year 6 leaders bought her pet lamb to school today.  He was super cute and let us all pat him.  Adin said he felt like his couch at home!  For some of our children it was the first time they had ever touched a lamb - thank you for sharing!

Learning new skills in Cricket!

Today we were super lucky to have some guys from Taranaki Cricket come and teach us how to hold a cricket bat correctly, aim to hit a ball, and then to be great fielders and quickly get balls that had been hit to us.  It was so much fun!  Enjoy our pics and please feel free to leave a comment on our video!

Connecting with the world

It is really easy to chat with our neighbour.
It is really easy to ring our family who live in the North or the South Island in New Zealand.
And now .... it is really easy to chat with children our age in another country ANYWHERE in the world!
Room 5 are taking part in a WORLD WIDE blogging challenge - where we can see kids our age and the learning they are taking part in.
So far we have looked at blogs from America, Canada, China and Australia!
What a changing world we live in!

New Zealand Shake Out!

Drop!

Cover!

Hold!

Room 5 know just what to do in case of an earthquake.  It is so important to know what to do if there is an earthquake!

Welcome to Term Four

Monday 12 October 2015

Welcome to Term 4!

Wow and what a fantastic term we have ahead of us!  This term we are starting with 15 children in Room 5, and Mrs Johnson and Mrs Parkes can’t wait to get started!

Dates for you to be aware of for the start of term :

Week One :
We need large jars (empty and clean) to come to school.  We need these to create some art masterpieces for our School Carnival which will be held on Sunday 8 November.  We would love for every child to bring one or two large jars with fitting lids please. The larger the jar the better!

Week Two:
We have Student Learning conferences on Tuesday 20 October starting at 2.00pm.  Please be aware that school will close that day at 12.50pm.  They are also on Wednesday 21 October starting at 3.30.  The school will send you an email for how to book the time that suits you.  It is important to note that these are NOT teacher/parent interviews.  This is an opportunity for your child to share with you their learning in Room 5.  If you have a query or a concern about your child’s learning and or well-being at school please come and see Tina or Wendy to arrange a teacher/parent interview, at a later date.

Week Three:
Labour Day on Monday – No school!
There will be LOTS of notes coming home about the carnival so please check your child’s bag.
We encourage the use of sunblock at school.  Please put it on before school and we will remind the children to reapply throughout the day.  Summer is on its way it is a rule that the children wear hats at morning tea, lunchtime and sports sessions.  Drink bottles are also necessary in these warmer months.
Also for our new families you children can order a piece of pizza on a Friday for $2 (Hawaiian and Meatlovers only) or a frozen juicee for  $2, for school fundraising.

Tina and Wendy are excited about this term – we have lots of fun learning planned and we thank you in advance for your wonderful support.

Please remember our door is always open, for you to come and see us if you have a question, concern or something exciting to share.
