Hadley's yummy tomatoes

Today Hadley brought the tomatoes to school he is growing at home.  They were so delicious and sweet.  We all thought the yellow ones were very pretty. It is a good thing you put the sacking over the tomato plants so the birds wouldn't eat them. Thank you Hadley for sharing them with room 5.

Latest News in Room 5

What a fun day we had at kindy yesterday.  It was great for the ex - pupils of Kahikatea Kindy to show all the other children, who went to a different early childhood centre, around.  They were certainly proud of their old kindy.  There were children zooming around on the flying fox, dressing up in the dress up area, swinging on the swings, digging in the sandpit and of course eating lunch!  Unfortunately Mrs Johnson left the camera in the classroom so we are waiting  for kindy to send the photos to us they took.  As soon as they arrive I will post them on the blog.

We have been so lucky with the weather and have been able to swim nearly every day since school began this year.  Many of the children have become so much more confident with this continuous exposure in water.  Next Wednesday at 11.30 you are invited to come to a demonstration of our water skills at our school pool.  Room two, three, four and five will demonstrate some of the activities we have been practicing in the water over the last few weeks.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Your child's poem/publishing book is sent home twice a week.  Once to share their publishing and another time to read their poem with you.  You will notice the poem has a lot of words in it.  I do not expect your child to read their poem perfectly on their own to you but to rather read it with you.  The children listen to our rhyming poems everyday and it is the rhyming and rhythm that is important for the children to hear.  These books do tend to get a little worse for wear so please encourage your child to pop it in the poem book tray as soon as they get to school.

Now the children are happy and settled into school if their are any mums or dads or grandparents who would like to come in and help in our classroom I would love to hear from you.  Even if it is just half an hour a week I would be most grateful.  I already have two lovely mums who have already offered.  With work commitments and younger children this is impossible for some and I totally understand.

I have set up all the children blogs and will start to post some comments and photos this week.  So keep a look out.  Just go to our class blog and you will see a link to your child's blog.  Please leave a comment.  The children get a real buzz from this.

It was lovely to see parents at our Interests and Talents Interviews.  Please remember you can come and see me any time to discuss anyissues about your child.
 Thank you
Tina Johnson

Beach Day Visit

What a fantastic  day we had at Ngamotu Beach.  Our day started when we were picked up by the bus.  We shared our bus with room 2 and room 9.  We headed to Belt Road and had a quick bite to eat then we were off to the Rock Pools.  We saw crabs, kina (both dead and alive), a variety of beautiful shells and even a small fish!

We had to walk a long way to the beach but no one complained!  Thank you to those wonderful mums who helped us on our trek.

We made some amazing sandcastles and after lunch we had a swim in the sea. At the end of the day we were abit sandy and salty and very tired.

What a wonderful class

Well room 5 is up and running.  We have a wonderful class of 15 happy and excited children.  It has been a pleasure to come to school each day and have such eager children to learn.  The children have settled in well and thank you to the parents who have encouraged their children to unpack their own bag in the mornings.

Swimming has started and every child has brought their togs every day!!!!   We go swimming with room 2.  Mrs Hawkins and I have watched the children having fun in the pool.  This is to ensure they are now in the correct swimming group so we can build on their swimming skills.  Our main focus is confidence and survival in the water.

I am in the process of setting up each child's blog.  As the children become more familiar with the interactive apps on our laptop you will be seeing snippets of your child's learning at school which has been posted by me or your child.

The weather has been very hot so please make sure your child has a hat and water bottle each day.

We do have STIN interviews (Strengths, Talents, Interests and Needs) on the 17th and 18th of February and you will receive a booking notice soon.  There are also SLC (Student Led Conferences) through out the year but you are most welcome to arrange a meeting at any time.  If it is a quick matter you can catch me before or after school.  Emails are most welcome tina@frankley.school.nz

If you have received this notice in hard copy only it is very important you subscribe to our class blog.  Go to the Frankley School website and find room 5's class blog and add your name into the box named "Follow by email".  Each time a notice is posted you will receive an alert.

Thank you
Tina Johnson

2016 Room 5 A Big Welcome

I am very excited about starting a new year and a new class with new children.  Starting school is a very exciting time in your child's life and I feel privileged to be part of your child's learning journey.

Due to room 1 being re-roofed room 1 has re-located to room 5.  It is a lovely classroom and as this is the warm summer term we will be utilizing the outside areas both in front of the classroom and the large space outside.

Speaking of warm weather we will be swimming everyday, weather permitting.  Please make sure your child brings their tog bag to school everyday.  We will be swimming after lunch with room 2.

It is very important that your child brings a hat and a water bottle to school everyday.  Please put sunblock on your child before school in the mornings.  I do have sunblock in the class for 'top ups'.

Library day is on Thursdays so please remind your child to make sure their library bag is returned each week before Thursday.

Stationary lists will be coming out in the first couple of days.  If it is possible could you please purchase these as soon as you can so your child has the appropriate tools to start learning!

I will be communicating to parents through our wonderful Room 5 class blog.  Please subscribe to this ASAP.  This is as simple as getting onto the Frankley School website going to the Room 5 blog and submitting your email address.  If you are unsure please see me.  If you are not getting any Room 5 updates also let me know as it will be a simple setting problem.

If you need to contact me my e-mail address is tina@frankley.school.nz

It is very important that if you have any concerns or  queries please come and see me before or after school.  Sometimes we may need to make a more appropriate time to sit down and talk.  As a parent of a five year old I know how daunting it can be when your child first starts school so please don't hesitate to have a chat with me.

I look forward to meeting you all.
