Gardening in TeKakano

We looked at the garden patch outside our classroom and decided we would like to plant it ourselves!

Ruby brought some sunflower seeds to school.

"They might grow up to be this big!" said Ruby.

We had to think about our garden;

Tall plants, short plants.

What do plants need to grow?

We know they need "dirt", water and sun.

Will there be enough sun??

How will we know how much water??

We looked at plants and decided what we would like to grow.

Then we planned our plantings

Jordey and Luca prepared the rest of the garden.

"Does this look soft enough Mrs H?"

Our runner beans will grow up here.

Mrs Irvine gave us these strawberry plants

And some cucumber plants

Elsie is checking the strawberry plants roots are covered with soil.

Everybody is helping.

Making sure our seeds are covered over.
